Ecological Footprint

Testing my ecological footprint made me nervous because I honestly was not sure where I was at. I found out that my biggest contributors were mobility, goods and services. My carbon footprint was the biggest contributor to my footprint. I had a feeling that mobility and carbon emissions would be my highest scores. I know this is due to the fact that I travel a lot as well as drive to work and school.

The second test I took was to see where my water usage stood. I found out that I use 1,596 gallons a day. Honestly, I found that to be pretty wild because to me that sounds like a lot of water. The test showed me that my biggest water hogs are my shopping habits and my diet. I was surprised that my diet still took up so much water because I eat plant based. On the other hand I was not surprised that shopping has a big contributor. I am a huge fan of new clothes.

Reduction Plan: I have a couple goals to help improve my ecological footprint. My first one is to bus to school at least once a week. I will be doing that in hopes of reducing my carbon footprint. Another goal is to reduce my purchase of processed goods as well as nut milks. After reading the "take action" section of my test I found out that nuts are water hogs. I also learned that processed foods are quite wasteful with water. By reducing my consumption of nut milks and processed foods I hope to reduce my water footprint. My last goal is to be smarter with my shopping. This includes buying less clothes and opting for more eco-friendly products (such as a bamboo toothbrush or natural soap).
